The Olympians received strong pitching performances from sophomore Stone Myers and freshman J.D. Rotert and added some timely hitting along the way, shutting out Hoosier Hills conference foe the Jeffersonville Red Devils 3-0 Thursday night at Olympian Field. Stone Meyers started the game, throwing 4 innings of work. Meyers allowed three hits, one walk, four strikeouts, all on forty pitches for the evening. Meyers gave way to freshman J.D. Rotert, who finished the final three innings. Rotert allowed no hits, four strikeouts, and one walk during his 3 innings of work. The two pitchers combined for 91 total pitches for the game. A very solid evening for the O's pitching staff! The O's only mustered four hits on the evening and stranded 7 runners on base, but received a huge at bat by senior Chase Niese. With the O's clinging to a 1-0 lead, Niese doubled down the right field line, driving in senior Evan Huckaby, who lead off the inning with a single, pushing the lead to 2-0. Niese then promptly stole 3rd base and advanced to home on a Jeff error to push the score 3-0, which was the difference for the O's! Batting for the O's: Chase Niese: 1-3, double RBI, stolen base Jackson Watkins: 2-3, double, stolen base Blake Borkhardt: BB, stolen base Evan Huckaby: 1-1, BB, stolen base Evam Balzer: BB The O's have two more homes before finishing the final three regular season games on the road. The O's host another HHC team, the New Albany Bulldogs, on Monday, May 13th, starting at 6 p.m. and then host the East Central Trojans on Senior Night, Tuesday, May 14th starting again at 6 p.m. Good luck O's!
