Weather significantly impacted the Columbus East versus Madison baseball game on Wednesday evening! During the top of the 4th inning, a Madison player lost grip of their bat, sending it flying towards third base, posing a threat to both the third base coach and the player stationed there. Remarkably, a similar incident occurred in the bottom of the 4th inning, this time involving a Columbus East batter. Following this second bat mishap, the umpires convened and decided to halt the game due to concerns for player safety. Regrettably, because the game was halted during the bottom of the 4th inning, it did not reach its completion. As of now, it remains uncertain whether the game will resume from that point. The game commenced under a light drizzle which gradually intensified as play continued. Madison initially took a 1-0 lead in the opening inning, but Columbus East swiftly responded, equalizing the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the same inning. After a scoreless top half of the 2nd inning for Madison, Columbus East surged ahead, scoring four runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-run homer from their catcher, Logan Warren. Despite Madison scoring runs in the 3rd and 4th innings, Columbus East failed to match them, resulting in a 5-3 lead for the O's when the game was halted in the bottom of the 4th inning. Jackson Watkins served as the pitcher for Columbus East, conceding three runs throughout the game. Notable hitting performances for Columbus East included a single by Chase Niese and a two-run homer by Logan Warren.
