The Columbus East Olympian baseball team kicked off their season with a spirited game on their newly renovated field, against the Waubonsie Valley Warriors from Aurora, Illinois. Although the game ended in a 6-2 loss, the Olympians displayed resilience and potential for the exciting season ahead. Taking an early 1-0 lead, the Olympians started off on the right foot, setting a promising tone for the game. However, the Warriors rallied in the third and fourth innings, scoring three runs each, to secure the victory, 6-2. Despite the outcome, the game marked a significant moment for Columbus East as it was their first official game on their newly renovated field. The enhancements, including new lighting, infield turf, dugouts, field dimensions, backstop, and locker room facility, provided a state-of-the-art setting for the team. Among the notable performances for Columbus East were Blake Borkhardt, who pitched 2 1/3 innings with four strikeouts and contributed a stolen base and single, showcasing his versatility on the field. Additionally, Chase Niese, Evan Balzer, Bige Asher, and Jace Jones each contributed with hits, including singles and doubles, for the O's. Looking ahead, the Olympians are eager to bounce back and continue improving. Their next challenge awaits as they face Center Grove High School tonight, Wednesday, March 27th, at 6 p.m., followed by a Friday night game, March 29th against Corydon Central starting at 5:30 p.m.
