A Long Time Coming! - After 42 Year Drought - H2O's Capture HHC Championship

NINETEEN EIGHTY-TWO ... 42 Years ago.... That was the last time the Columbus East boys swim team won a Hoosier Hills Conference Championship. Fast-forward to 2024: The Columbus East Boys H2O's captured the HHC championship, outscoring runner-up, the Floyd Central Highlanders, 319 - 294. With the conference win, Olympians Head Coach Doug Trueblood, was named 2024 HHC Coach of the Year. Olympians Dominate in Swimming Showdown: In a spectacular day at Jeffersonville High School, the Olympians were able to capture 10 out of 11 swimming events. Judah Nickoll set a school record in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at an impressive 1 minute, 46.88 seconds, and also clinched victory in the 100 backstroke (54.90). Cavan Stilson showcased his expertise, winning the 50 freestyle (22.52) and 100 freestyle (48.96), while Misha Machavariani claimed the 100 butterfly (53.12) and 100 breaststroke (1:00.74). Todd Hundley secured a win in the 200 individual medley (2:02.69) and took second place in the 100 backstroke (54.90), while Keaton Stephenson dominated the 500 freestyle (4:58.08) and secured second in the 200 freestyle (1:47.55). Gavin Day demonstrated skill with a second-place finish in the diving competition (465.20). Adding to the O's great day, Hundley, Machavariani, Judah Nickoll, and Stilson joined forces to win the 200 medley relay (1:39.95). The quartet of Judah Nickoll, Stephenson, Machavariani, and Stilson shone in the 400 freestyle relay (3:19.48). Ethan Hall, Jasper Nickoll, Hundley, and Stephenson claimed third place in the 200 freestyle relay (1:37.36). The Olympians truly made a splash, showcasing their awesome abilities in an outstanding swimming and diving performance.
