CEHS Boy's Cross-Country Hires New Head Coach

Columbus East Athletics Names Gabriel Ocasio as the new Olympians Boys Cross-Country Coach Coach Gabriel Ocasio, a dedicated individual with a passion for health and physical education, has been appointed as the new boys cross-country coach and assistant boys track & field coach at Columbus East High School. After graduating from Marian University in May 2018 with a B.A. in Health and Physical Education, Ocasio brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his coaching role. Currently serving as a Therapy Specialist at Henry Chiropractic Center for the past four years, Ocasio's commitment to promoting well-being extends beyond his professional life. His coaching journey began as the Head Coach for Pathfinders Cross Country and Track and Field in 2018, a role he continues to excel in. Additionally, he has been at the helm as the Head Coach for Parkside Elementary School Cross Country since 2022, fostering a love for running among young athletes. Ocasio's coaching expertise extends to personal training sessions and clinics for individuals of all ages, showcasing his dedication to developing athletes from elementary to adult levels since 2017. His experience also includes serving as an Assistant Cross Country Coach at Columbus North High School from 2019 to 2021 and volunteering as an Assistant Cross Country Coach at Marian University in 2018. Coach Ocasio’s coaching career is complemented by a list of awards and accolades, including being a 4-time State Champion (2 as an athlete and 2 as a coach) and achieving a 3rd Place Team finish at the Nike Cross Country Nationals in Portland, OR. Among his individual honors are Indiana All-Star (2010), All-State (2009, 2010), All-Semi State (2009, 2010), All-Regional (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010), All-Sectional (2007,2008, 2009, 2010), All-Conference (2008, 2009, 2010), All-Conference Honorable Mention (2007), Captain Award (2009, 2010), Most Valuable Player (2008), CN Bulldog Award (2007). Ocasio's achievements extend to his college days, where he earned NAIA All-American honors in Indoor Track and Field, secured seven Conference Championships, and became a USATF Certified Coach for five years. Additionally, he led his team to a 3rd Place finish at the Inaugural BCSC Championships. As the new boys cross-country coach at Columbus East High School, Gabriel Ocasio's journey reflects a commitment to excellence, mentorship, and the comprehensive development of young athletes.
