Impressive Victories & Records Set - East Girls Place 4th in HHC Swim Tourney

Columbus East showcased outstanding talent and determination in Saturday's Hoosier Hills Conference girls swimming and diving meet held at New Albany. The team's commendable performances resulted in a fourth-place finish. Floyd Central emerged as the triumphant team, securing the title with an impressive 379 points. The competition was fierce, with Jeffersonville closely following at 228 points, Seymour at 208, and the Olympians securing fourth place with a commendable 178 points. The standout achievements for Columbus East were led by Connelly Furnish, who exhibited exceptional skill and determination. Furnish secured victory in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking an impressive 2 minutes and 1.15 seconds. The talented swimmer continued to dominate in the 500 freestyle, claiming first place with a remarkable time of 5 minutes and 20.12 seconds. In the diving competition, Gabbie Meier took center stage, capturing the title with an impressive score of 433.85 points. Meier's stellar performance not only secured victory for Columbus East but also set a new school record, adding an extra layer of accomplishment to the team's achievements. Ali Trueblood secured the second position in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:15.68. The team of Kira VanValkenburg, Meier, Abby Proffitt, and Connelly Furnish joined forces to claim the second spot in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.74. Additionally, VanValkenburg, Cassidy Furnish, Meier, and Connelly Furnish achieved second place in the 400 freestyle relay, clocking in at 4:01.49. Celebrating the success, the team emphasized the overall strong performances of their girl swimmers and divers throughout the conference. Connelly Furnish's dual triumph as an HHC Champ in both the 200 Free and 500 Free events showcased her versatility and dominance in the pool. Gabbie Meier's historic win in diving further underscored the team's commitment to excellence. The team expressed pride in the continuous improvement witnessed among their athletes, noting numerous other exceptional performances that contributed to their overall success.
