In a showdown at the Orange Pit on Saturday night, the Columbus East Olympians faced a formidable challenge from the 5-win Franklin basketball team, boasting size and experienced leadership with four seniors in the starting lineup. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Olympians succumbed to the Grizzly Cubs with a final score of 53-46. The game remained neck-and-neck, with the Olympians trailing by just one point in the 4th quarter. In a critical sequence, the Olympians had opportunities to seize the lead late in the game but suffered back-to-back turnovers. A Franklin free throw and a three-point shot extended the Grizzly Cubs' lead to 48-43 with only 1:27 remaining. Forced to foul, the Olympians watched as Franklin converted 5 of 6 free throws, securing a 53-46 victory. Despite the loss, the Olympians showcased their best defensive performance of the season, employing tough man-to-man defense that kept them competitive throughout the night. Facing a formidable frontcourt, Olympian inside players Keaton Lawson and Carter Patterson were hindered in driving to the basket. However, the team adapted by capitalizing on perimeter opportunities, sinking six three-pointers, including Mason Reeves' impressive four three-pointers. The offensive effort was led by Mason Reeves with 18 points, supported by Jack Fischvogt (7 points), Keaton Lawson (8 points), Alex Duncan (6 points), and Carter Patterson (5 points). The Olympians now turn their focus to fine-tuning their game in practice before hosting cross-town rivals, the Columbus North Bulldogs, on Friday, December 15th, back in the Orange Pit.
