Columbus East junior Norman Dickson represented the Olympians on Indiana high school cross-country's biggest stage on Saturday afternoon at the IHSAA Boys Cross-Country State Championship meet. Competing against the state’s elite distance runners at the famed LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Dickson navigated the tough 5,000-meter layout to clock a time of 16:58.7, placing 213th in a competitive 250-runner field. While it was a grueling outing on the course for Dickson, reaching the state finals capped a groundbreaking campaign. Dickson’s trip to Terre Haute made him the first Columbus East boys runner to qualify for the state meet since 2001, providing a signature milestone for an Olympian squad that qualified as a full team for Regionals earlier in the postseason. The championship race marks both the finish line of a memorable autumn and an exciting launching pad for what is ahead. Dickson will return for his senior campaign next fall primed for an even bigger season, leading an Olympian squad projected to bring back six of its top runners to build upon the solid foundation laid this year. Congratulations to Norman Dickson and the entire Columbus East program on a memorable, trailblazing season to be proud of!
