GREENSBORO, N.C. — Three Columbus East wrestlers took to the mats at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex this weekend to test themselves in what is widely regarded as the toughest preseason folkstyle tournament in the country: the Super 32 Challenge. Drawing state champions, national placewinners, and top collegiate scouts from coast to coast, the Super 32 features massive, unforgiving brackets where every single victory is hard-earned. Competing under the bright lights in North Carolina, the Olympians proved they belong in the national conversation with gritty, statement-making performances. Leading the charge into Sunday was heavyweight standout Hank “The Tank” Redman. After a narrow opening-round setback on Saturday, Redman mounted an emphatic comeback through the consolation side, stringing together four consecutive wins to close Day 1 at 4-1. He carried that momentum straight into Sunday morning, grinding out a tough 2-0 decision to launch Day 2 and cement his spot in the tournament's top 12. Columbus East also received strong showings from Cameron Cooper and Colin McMahon: Colin McMahon turned heads on Day 1 with a relentless campaign, kicking off his tournament with an assertive first-period pin. McMahon put together a 4-2 run across a loaded bracket, battling deep into Saturday's rounds and falling just one win shy of securing a Day 2 placement. Cam Coop opened his weekend in dominant fashion, overpowering his first opponent in a 13-0 major decision shutout before wrapping up his run at 1-2 against premier national competition. Facing the deepest fields in high school wrestling, the Olympians' resilience on the national stage sets an imposing tone as Columbus East gears up for the regular season ahead.
