MARENGO, Ind. — Columbus East junior Norman Dickson secured a ticket to the state finals on Saturday, clocking a time of 16:11.60 to finish 22nd overall at the IHSAA Cross-Country Regional hosted by Crawford County High School. Dickson’s performance earned him the 12th individual advancing spot among runners not affiliated with qualifying teams, punching his ticket to run at the IHSAA State Finals next Saturday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute. Dickson set the tone early for the Olympians, settling into the lead pack and maintaining a brisk sub-5:13 mile pace across the 5,000-meter course. His 22nd-place overall finish translated into just 19 points in the team standings. As a squad, Columbus East finished 21st in the 25-team field with a team score of 510, compiling an average time of 18:05 and a 1-through-5 runner spread of 2:52. Freshman Daxton Wolf was the second Olympian to cross the finish line, placing 136th overall in 18:12.50 (109 points). Senior Cullen Fullerton capped his prep cross-country career right behind Wolf, taking 139th in 18:15.00 (111 points). Freshman Henry Meredith ran fourth for East, finishing 170th in 18:42.80 (127 points). Junior Liam Wiltsey rounded out the scoring five in 195th with a mark of 19:04.10 (144 points). Juniors Mick Emme (196th, 19:05.10) and sophomore Caleb Reid (198th, 19:08.90) finished in close succession to serve as displacers. Cross-town rival Columbus North took the team championship with 53 points, joined in the top five state-qualifying spots by Barr-Reeve (146), Bloomington South (153), Bloomington North (167), and Evansville F.J. Reitz (173).
