The Columbus East boys' basketball team is gearing up for a transformative season, with a renewed sense of purpose and a fresh leader at the helm, Coach Perry Nash. Despite facing challenges in recent years, the Olympians are embracing a new era of potential and growth. In their official scrimmage against the Roncalli Royals, the Olympians showcased glimpses of their evolving strengths. The team demonstrated improved three-point shooting, solid defensive efforts, and commendable team cohesion. While facing tough competition, especially from sharpshooter Drew Kegerreis, the Olympians held their own, securing a tie in the first quarter and displaying resilience throughout the game. The scrimmage also provided valuable playing time for the junior varsity (JV) squad, allowing new faces to shine and sophomores to exhibit their potential. Despite challenges in the later quarters, the Olympians finished strong, hinting at the foundation for a more successful 2023-2024 season. As they look forward to their regular-season opener against Whiteland H.S. on November 28th, the Olympians are poised for a fresh start. With notable players like junior guard Ethan Edwards and senior Wiatt McLaughlin on the opposing team, the game promises to be an exciting test of the Olympians' newfound strengths. The journey ahead may present its share of challenges, but the Columbus East Olympians, under the guidance of Coach Nash, are ready to face them head-on. The Orange Pit will be buzzing with anticipation as the freshman/JV contests kick off at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity action at 7:30 p.m. Best of luck to the Olympians as they embark on a season filled with potential, growth, and success.
