Columbus East High School

Across the state of Indiana on Sunday night, high school football teams packed into restaurants, basements, barns, and fieldhouses, eyes glued to big-screen TVs for one of the state's great autumn traditions: the IHSAA tournament pairings show. Indiana stands apart from most states with its all-inclusive postseason structure, guaranteeing every single program a spot on the bracket and at least one shot at tournament glory. For the Columbus East Olympians, the anticipation built until approximately 8:25 p.m., when the ping-pong balls finally determined their fate in the 2026–2027 IHSAA Class 4A Boys Football State Tournament. The draw rewarded the Olympians with home-field advantage for the sectional quarterfinals, where they will host the Charlestown Pirates on Friday, October 23, at 7:00 p.m. ET. The opening matchup presents a formidable challenge. Charlestown brings a stellar 6-1 record into the final week of the regular season, where they face a opponent familiar to Columbus East—the Jennings County Panthers. According to the official tournament bracket, Jennings County secured a first-round bye and will automatically advance to host a sectional semifinal contest on Friday, October 30. The rest of the sectional quarterfinal field features Madison Consolidated visiting East Central and Shelbyville traveling to Silver Creek, both kicking off on October 23 at 7:00 p.m. ET. Winners of the quarterfinal matchups will advance to the second round on Friday, October 30, with the Sectional Championship game slated for Friday, November 6. Before turning complete attention to the postseason, the Olympians have critical business to settle in the regular-season finale. Columbus East travels to take on the Bedford North Lawrence Stars in a showdown with major conference implications, as both teams battle to claim sole possession of second place in the Hoosier Hills Conference. A strong finish in Bedford will give the Olympians maximum momentum as they launch their sectional title quest.
