ST. LEON — Under steady rain at East Central High School, the Columbus East boys soccer team battled rival Columbus North in Saturday night's IHSAA Sectional Championship match. In a tight contest that stayed scoreless deep into the second half, the Olympians fell 1-0 to end their postseason run. Columbus East relied on a disciplined defense to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard for most of the night. Goalkeeper Ryder Meek anchored the backline, making eight saves to keep the Olympians within striking distance while facing steady pressure. The match stayed tied until the 71st minute, when North slipped a shot into the net for the game's lone goal. East pushed up the field in the final minutes to create scoring opportunities, fighting for an equalizer until the last whistle. Team captains Ryder Meek, Ronan Maier, and Ethan Glick helped direct the squad throughout a solid season that finished with an 8-5-5 record. Thank you to the senior class for all their hard work this fall and throughout their careers as Olympians. Their contributions leave a lasting impact on the program. Special thanks also go to Coach Nathan Cline for his strong leadership during his first year as head coach, guiding the team through a memorable season.
