The Columbus East girls' basketball team hasn't had the best track record against the East Central Trojans lately. In the past five years, they managed just 3 wins out of 10 matchups. Again, the O's were the slight underdogs for last night's game at East Central High School. No surprises, the game turned into a defensive showdown. Both the Olympians and the Trojans scraped together only 6 points in the first quarter and 13 in the second. By halftime, the Olympians were barely hanging on to a 10-9 lead. Things got a bit livelier in the third quarter as the Olympians found their offensive groove posting 13 points, but the Trojans weren't slacking either, almost matching the O's with 12 points. Heading into the fourth quarter, the Olympians were holding onto a slim 23-21 lead. Then came the fourth quarter heroics. The Olympians cranked up the defense, allowing the Trojans a measly 4 points. Meanwhile, they matched their third-quarter score with 13 points, securing a 36-25 win. Big shout outs go to the Olympians' killer defense, holding the Trojans to just 25 points and keeping them from landing any three-pointers. Victoria Cuhadar came up huge, nailing two crucial three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Jenna Guse and Madelyn Poe held it down with their consistent play and senior leadership. And let's not forget Caroline Frost, who dropped a season-high 5 points and provided some front court scoring presence. Scoring rundown for the Olympians: - Madelyn Poe: 8 points - Caroline Frost: 5 points - Messiah Trapp: 4 points - Victoria Cuhadar: 6 points - Jenna Guse: 9 points - Kenzi Cheek: 4 points And mark your calendars because the Lady O's are back at it this Friday, November 17th, at The Orange Pit, taking on the Mooresville Pioneers.
