MADISON, Ind. — The Columbus East volleyball squad rallied in a back-and-forth battle Wednesday evening to earn a five-set road victory over the host Madison Cubs. The Olympians found themselves in an early hole after dropping the opening set 18-25, but quickly responded with a 25-22 win in the second. Madison regained the upper hand by taking the third frame 15-25. Refusing to fold, Columbus East pushed through a 27-25 extra-points victory in set four before sealing the match with a 15-11 effort in the fifth. Addy Dean led the Olympian attack with a team-high 23 kills and four blocks, while adding 11 digs and an ace. Ava Tartt posted a strong overall performance with 12 kills, 15 digs, and a service ace. Cadence Smith also provided key front-row offensive support by pounding nine kills. Setter play kept the offense moving throughout the night. Jillian Chapple dished out 28 assists and picked up 11 digs. Kenlee Gault helped direct the offense as well, tallying 18 assists and serving three aces. On the defensive side of the ball, Kadence Miller anchored the passing with a team-high 19 digs. At the net, Riley Hawley and Emma Armstrong turned back two blocks apiece, with Armstrong adding an ace to round out the scoring. With the hard-fought win secured, the Olympians will travel north tonight (10/7) to face the #16 state-ranked Roncalli Royals for their regular-season finale. IHSAA Sectional play begins October 15th at Columbus East. The Olympians will play Saturday, October 17th at 10 a.m.
