Columbus, IN - The Columbus East girls volleyball team made the quick trip across town on Thursday evening for a highly competitive rivalry match against Columbus North High School. The Olympians fought hard from the opening serve but dropped the highly contested match in three straight sets by competitive scores of 25-22, 25-21, and 25-10. Columbus East controlled the tempo early in both the first and second frames. In the opening set, the Olympians built a quick 11-8 advantage before their opponents mounted a comeback. The second set saw an even stronger push from East, as they jumped out to a commanding 15-9 lead and held onto a narrow 19-18 edge late in the frame before the Bulldogs found their footing to close out the set. The final frame proved challenging for the visiting squad, as early deficits prevented them from generating a sustained offensive rhythm. A variety of Columbus East players contributed key statistics during the match. Addy Dean paced the front row with 11 kills while anchoring the defense with eight digs and one block. Jillian Chapple guided the offense by delivering 13 assists, and Kenlee Gault added to the passing effort with five assists. Defensively, Kadence Miller led the team with 10 digs, while Ava Tartt provided a well-rounded performance of five kills and eight digs. Emma Armstrong made a versatile impact with three kills, two aces, and a block, while Cadence Smith rounded out the stat line with three kills, one ace, and a block. The Olympians will be back on the court this coming Saturday (10/3) when they travel to Bloomington, IN to face the Bloomington North Cougars. First serve: 11:30 a.m.
