Olympians Claim Runner-Up Finish at Artesian Volleyball Classic MARTINSVILLE — The Columbus East girls volleyball team delivered a strong performance at Saturday's Artesian Volleyball Classic hosted by Martinsville High School, posting a 2-1 record on the day to earn a second-place finish overall. The tournament field featured programs from across the region, including Avon, Bloomington North, North Decatur, North Central, and host Martinsville. Columbus East asserted control early in Pool A action, opening tournament play with a decisive straight-set victory over host Martinsville (25-18, 25-19). The Olympians kept their momentum going in their second pool match, battling through a thrilling extended second set to defeat North Decatur (25-22, 29-27). By sweeping both Pool A matches, Columbus East earned the right to battle Pool B winner North Central in the tournament final. In a hard-fought championship clash, the Olympians ultimately fell to North Central in straight sets (25-18, 25-20). Addy Dean powered the offensive attack with 29 kills across the three matches while anchoring the lineup with 21 digs, two blocks, and two aces. Cadence Smith delivered major support at the net with 14 kills and two aces, while Ava Tartt provided a strong all-around performance with 12 kills and 11 digs. Playmaking duties were split effectively between Jillian Chapple, who dished out a team-high 35 assists, and Kenlee Gault, who posted 25 assists while leading the server's stripe with five aces. Defensively, libero Kadence Miller led the back row with 30 digs and chipped in three aces. Net defense was highlighted by Riley Hawley's team-high four blocks, while Kaylah Williams contributed to the service game with two aces.
