COLUMBUS — A relentless second-half offensive push by Columbus East fell just inches short of a victory on Tuesday evening, as the Olympians played out a 1-1 Hoosier Hills Conference draw against visiting Jeffersonville. After a scoreless opening half, Columbus East took control of the tempo in the second period, routinely pressing into the attack and creating high-quality looks. The breakthrough arrived in the 68th minute when freshman Lilly Arden capitalized on a setup from Lilah Glick to put the host Olympians ahead 1-0. However, the lead proved short-lived; Jeffersonville responded almost immediately, netting an equalizer just two minutes later to restore parity. Despite the quick setback, Columbus East pushed hard for a decisive winner down the stretch. The Olympians held a commanding 19-8 advantage in total shots, putting 11 on target to Jeffersonville’s six. Their best opportunity for a late winner came in the 76th minute when Ezme Breedlove uncorked a strike that beat the keeper but clanged off the right post. Goalkeeper Addy Grebel anchored the back line for East, finishing the night with five saves to hold the Red Devils at one. Columbus East will look to carry their strong form onto the road for their next contest when they visit Martinsville High School on Thursday, September 24th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
