BLOOMINGTON, IN — A wet start and a down-to-the-wire finish could not keep Columbus East from extending its postseason. Rain forced Monday’s IHSAA Sectional at Cascades Golf Course to push back its original 8:30 a.m. tee time to a 12:00 p.m. start, but the Olympians weathered the delay to capture third place overall and secure the program's first regional appearance in four years. In a challenging tournament where high scores were common across the leaderboard, Martinsville captured the team title with a score of 343, while host Bloomington North claimed second place with a 383. The battle for the third and final qualifying spot came down to a tense finish among three rival programs. Columbus East and Bloomington South finished deadlocked for third at 415. The Olympians earned the third-place advancement on the fifth-score tiebreaker. Crosstown rival Columbus North finished just one shot back in fourth at 416. Sophomore Emma Gill paced Columbus East with a team-low score of 97. Abby King carded a 101, Calleigh Gill contributed a 104, Sofia Perez finished with a 113, and Brynn Wendel rounded out the lineup with a 127. With their qualifying effort, Columbus East advances to the IHSAA Regional on Saturday, September 26th at The Legends Golf Course in Franklin, Indiana.
