Following a challenging week marked by a head coaching transition and an eight-game scoreless streak, the Columbus East girls soccer team earned a vital 3-0 non-conference victory against the Hauser Jets on Thursday evening. Stepping into the head coaching role with only a single afternoon practice to prepare the squad, Ethan Graman guided the Olympians through a pivotal moment, yielding immediate results on the scoreboard. For a roster navigating significant early-season adversity, the win provided a genuine sense of relief and a refreshed foundation to build upon. East established control on the pitch early, demonstrating sharper ball movement and defensive discipline than in previous outings. Sophomore Hannah Weidner recorded the team’s inaugural goal of the fall during the first half, connecting on a cross from Maria Lopez to break the long scoring drought. The momentum carried into the second half, where freshman Ezme Breedlove extended the advantage after finishing a setup from Marley VanEst. Senior Lilah Glick put the match out of reach late in the contest, capitalizing on an assist from Audrey Bush to cap off the 3-0 victory. On the defensive end, goalkeeper Addie Grebel anchored the back line, stopping six saves to earn the team's first shutout of the season.
