The high school wrestling season may still be on the horizon, but the Columbus East Olympians made sure the Midwest took notice this weekend. Eight Olympians traveled to compete at the Indianamat Hoosier Preseason Open (IHPO)—a premier Super 32 qualifier drawing elite talent from across Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky. By the end of the day, East put the region on notice, headlined by a championship run and a dramatic national upset. Hank “the Tank” Redman provided the signature performance of the tournament, capturing the crown in stunning fashion. "Big Link" turned in a dominant run of his own, powering his way through a stacked bracket to reach the finals and take 2nd place overall. Meanwhile, Colin provided the gutsiest performance of the tournament. After an early-round setback, Colin embarked on a grueling marathon in the wrestle-backs, grinding through an astounding eight matches in a single day. His relentless drive paid off with a 4th-place podium finish, showcasing the conditioning and mental toughness that will define the Olympians' lineup. The IHPO is widely regarded as one of the toughest preseason tests in the Midwest, serving as a critical barometer for wrestlers eyeing success at the national Super 32 and state tournament levels. With three top-four finishers and eight wrestlers gaining vital high-level mat time, Columbus East demonstrated both elite top-end talent and deep-lineup grit.
