The Columbus East girls golf team delivered one of its most complete team performances of the year on Thursday evening, hosting the Batesville Bulldogs on their home course at Greenbelt Golf Course. Showcasing steady progression and clutch individual play, the Olympians combined for a team score of 194, tying their best overall score of the season. Leading the charge for Columbus East was Calleigh Gill, who put together a career highlight evening on the links. Gill fired a personal-best score of 41 across the nine-hole match, pacing the entire team. Her round was anchored by remarkable consistency and impressive efficiency on the greens, including a stellar birdie on the par-3 fifth hole to highlight her career-low performance. Senior stability helped round out the score sheet for the Olympians. Abby King posted a strong round of 45, providing vital support near the top of the lineup. Emma Gill carded a solid 51 to bolster the team total, while Sofia Perez chipped in a 57 to round out the four counting scores that cemented East’s season-best 194 tally. Brynn Wendel also turned in a competitive effort for the Olympians, shooting a 58. The Olympians fell to the Bulldogs 163-194. Tying their lowest mark of the season on home turf marks an encouraging milestone for the Olympians as they continue to build momentum. With individual career highs like Calleigh Gill’s setting the tone and depth showing across the card, Columbus East looks primed to keep lowering team scores as the regular season winds down and the postseason starting September 21st.
