The Columbus East Olympian Boys Cross-Country team battled intense heat and demanding course conditions this past Saturday at the Columbus North Invitational, hosted at Cera Sports Park. Competing against a deep field, the Olympians finished 25th overall and 18th in Class AA scoring. Leading the charge for East was Norman Dickson, who delivered a standout performance by placing 7th overall in a blistering 15:40.6. Dickson’s race marked a massive 30-second personal record (PR), bringing him tantalizingly close to the school record. “Norman had a 30-second PR, so that’s pretty big,” said Columbus East head coach Chanel Thompson. “They’re coming off of a hard week of training with lots of heat, as we all are, so I’m happy with what they ran, considering the circumstances of the week.” Daxton Wolf crossed as the second varsity finisher for the Olympians, taking 166th overall in 18:42.3. Henry Meredith was right on his heels in 170th (18:44.4), followed by Cullen Fullerton in 211th (19:19.8). Rounding out the varsity roster were Liam Wiltsey in 217th (19:28.7), Caleb Reid in 234th (20:01.3), Zayden Weatherford in 249th (20:23.5), and Mick Emme in 259th (20:46.7). In the Junior Varsity race, freshman Evan Holley paced the Olympian effort, setting the standard for the squad with a team-leading time of 21:56.
