When the Olympians competed against Franklin Community High School in early August, they suffered a defeat in three sets: 25-10, 26-24, 25-18. This loss served as a wake-up call for the Olympians, prompting them to elevate their game. They won the subsequent three matches and displayed steady improvement throughout the season. Since the Olympians and Franklin Community High School were in the same sectional, they anticipated a potential rematch. As predicted, this rematch occurred in the semi-final round of the IHSAA Sectional on Saturday, October 14th. Similar to their August encounter, the Olympians struggled and lost the first set 25-11. Although they performed better in the second set, they couldn't match the Grizzly Cubs' intensity and lost 25-17. Faced with the possibility of their season coming to an end, the Olympians pushed themselves and secured a victory in the third set with a score of 25-22. In the fourth set, both teams fiercely contested, refusing to back down. Franklin's seniors, Scarlett Kimbrell and Brooklyn York, delivered crucial kills in the latter stages of the set, enabling the Grizzly Cubs to gain an advantage and ultimately win the 4th set 25-21, clinching the match with a score of 3 sets-1. The Olympians concluded the season with 10 wins and 22 losses. Many of their losses were against top-tier teams in the state. They also attained a 4th place standing in the Hoosier Hills Conference, and two of the HHC teams they competed against are vying for the Sectional 15 championship tonight, October 14th. Wishing our senior class good luck in their future endeavors. Next years Olympians need to get physically stronger and be ready to compete to start the 2024 season!
