The Columbus East Olympians experienced a night of offensive highs and lows, ultimately sealing the game with a late 4th quarter touchdown to triumph over HHC rival, the Jeffersonville Red Devils, with a score of 25-7 at Jeffersonville High School. The Olympians began the game on a strong offensive note, accumulating 13 points in the first half. However, they struggled to maintain this momentum, managing to score only 12 points in the remaining duration of the game. On the defensive front, the O's exhibited consistency throughout the evening by generating turnovers, successfully defending against Jeffersonville on multiple critical 4th down plays, and keeping the Red Devils from crossing the end zone for most of the game. Kyson Villareal showcased his prowess with two touchdown passes: one to Keaton Lawson for 23 yards and another to Cam Herron for 27 yards. Tyler Weller also contributed by scoring a 1-yard touchdown run midway through the 4th quarter. Skylar Bailey added to the scoreboard with two successful field goals from distances of 29 and 34 yards. Coach Vogel and the Olympians are set to wrap up the regular season with a home game, hosting another HHC opponent, Bedford North-Lawrence, on Senior Night, scheduled for October 13th at 7 p.m. On October 8th, Sunday night, the IHSAA will hold its annual pairings show for the 2023 IHSAA State football tournament. The Olympians will face familiar foes in the 5A Sectional 15, having encountered all three opponents during the season and unfortunately falling to each of them.
