The Columbus East boys soccer team traveled to St. Leon on Tuesday night, battling through a physical, high-intensity match to earn a 1-1 draw against the East Central Trojans. The Olympians struck first with a textbook sequence in transition defense-to-offense. Robby Orgass initiated the attack out of the back line with a sharp pass into Ethan Glick near the 10-yard mark. Glick quickly turned and slotted a through ball ahead to Ronan Maier, who outran the Trojan backline on a breakaway and calmly finished into the back of the net. East Central dialed up the pressure following the opening strike, keeping the Olympians’ backline active throughout the remainder of the contest. The Trojans ultimately outshot Columbus East 13 to 7, forcing goalkeeper Ryder Meek to deliver a standout performance between the posts. Meek turned away 8 shots on the night to preserve the lead well into the second half. East Central finally broke through late in the final period, leveling the score on a long-distance strike that beat Meek into the net. While the Trojans managed to snatch a late equalizer, head coach Nathan Cline continues to see encouraging signs from his young squad as they build chemistry on the pitch. "I am continuing to see positive things while finding the right guys to fit in all the openings from the loss of so many varsity players last year," Cline said after the match. The Olympians will look to carry the momentum from Tuesday's gritty defensive effort into their next match as they continue refining their rotation. The O's host Lawrenceburg High School on Thursday, August 20th starting at 7:30 p.m.
