The Columbus East boys tennis team kicked off its home schedule on Saturday morning, hosting the Hauser Jets and Greenwood Woodmen in a competitive tri-match. The Olympians demonstrated their roster depth throughout the day, earning a commanding 4-1 victory against Hauser before dropping a hard-fought 3-2 battle to Greenwood. Columbus East 4, Hauser 1 East established control early in the opening match against Hauser, securing four of the five varsity positions. Carson Hartsook & Drew Lawson (CE) 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 10-4 The No. 2 doubles pair of Hartsook and Lawson put on a thriller, rallying back after dropping a first-set tiebreaker to take set two 6-4 before falling in a 10-point match tiebreak. Day Highlights & How High School Tennis Scoring Works Undefeated Stars: Micah Wettschurack (No. 3 Singles) and Kai Bergman (No. 2 Singles) both went 2-0 on the day. Understanding the Score Sheet: High school dual matches consist of 5 individual points (3 Varsity Singles + 2 Varsity Doubles). The team that wins 3 or more of those 5 matches wins the overall team dual. Sets are played to 6 games (must win by 2). If a set reaches 6-6, a 7-point tiebreak is played (e.g., 7-5 in a tiebreak). In 10-point super-tiebreakers (used instead of a full 3rd set, like at No. 2 Doubles against Greenwood), the first side to 10 points (by 2) takes the match point. The O's are back in action when they make the quick trip south to face Trinity Lutheran on Monday, August 17th at 5 p.m.
