COLUMBUS — The Columbus East boys soccer team kicked off their season Saturday afternoon at the BCSC Soccer Complex with a gritty performance, battling the visiting Whiteland Warriors to a 1-1 draw. Facing a Whiteland squad fresh off a sectional championship run last season, the Olympians held their ground from the opening whistle. The match turned into a physical, back-and-forth defensive battle, remaining locked in a stalemate at halftime as both side's backlines dictated the pace. Columbus East found its spark when Ronin found the back of the net off a setup from Ryder to put the Olympians on the board. Whiteland applied heavy pressure throughout the afternoon, outshooting East 9-7, but Ryder delivered a standout performance—anchoring the defense with six crucial saves alongside his assist to keep the game deadlocked through full time. What made East's execution even more impressive was the youth on the pitch. Head Coach Nathan Cline showed immense trust in his rising talent, handing starting nods to three freshmen for their varsity debuts against a strong team to open their schedule. "Lots of positives coming away from the first game of the season," noted Coach Cline following the match.
