INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Keaton Lawson's outstanding Columbus East athletic career came to a close Saturday afternoon at the IHSAA Boys Track and Field State Finals at North Central High School in Indianapolis. Competing against the state's best high jumpers in hot and humid conditions, Lawson cleared 6 feet, 4 inches to finish tied for 17th place in a field of 33 athletes. The three-sport standout successfully cleared 6-4 but was unable to clear 6-5 and advance further in the competition. Lawson's appearance at the state finals marked the final chapter of a memorable athletic career that saw him represent the Olympians in football, basketball, and track and field. The high jump competition featured some of Indiana's top athletes, including state champion Jordan Randall of Warsaw, who cleared 7-2 to claim the title. Randall's winning mark ranks as the No. 1 jump in Indiana this season and the fifth-best jump in the nation in 2026. For Lawson, Saturday's performance was another example of the dedication and competitiveness that defined his time in orange and brown. Whether it was making spectacular touchdown receptions on Friday nights, electrifying crowds with highlight-reel dunks on the basketball court, or soaring above the bar in the high jump pit, Lawson consistently provided Olympian fans with memorable moments throughout his career. His state finals appearance capped a successful senior season and added one final accomplishment to an impressive list of achievements as a Columbus East student-athlete. As Lawson's Olympian career comes to an end, the Columbus East community thanks him for the countless memories, leadership, and commitment he brought to every sport he represented. Congratulations, Keaton, on an outstanding high school career. We wish you the very best as you continue your academic and athletic journey at the next level.
