Columbus East wraps up the regular season with a long road trip to Vincennes before sectional play begins. VINCENNES, IN — The Columbus East High School boys golf team finished up their regular season on Tuesday, playing a long 36 holes of golf at the Adam Schenk South Knox Invitational. The Olympians made the two-hour drive southwest to Vincennes to play at Cypress Hills Golf Club. The match, hosted by South Knox High School, gave the team a chance to get a lot of competitive holes in as a final tune-up before the upcoming state tournament. Playing 36 holes in one day is a long stretch of golf, but it served as a good workout for the guys. The team shot a 368 in the morning round and followed it up with a 372 in the afternoon, finishing the day with a total score of 740. In the first round, Luke Rice led the way for the team by shooting an 87. Braxton Burton and Ogden Crough both shot the low rounds of the morning for East, each bringing in an 83. Frank Phillips added a 95 to the score, and Eddie Seaborne finished with a 102. In the second round, the scores stayed pretty similar as the players dealt with a long afternoon on the course. Rice led East again by shooting an 89, which was two strokes better than his first round. Crough shot a 90 in the afternoon, giving him the lowest total score for East on the day with a 173. Burton added a 94 to the afternoon total, Phillips finished with a 99, and Seaborne shot a 103. While the team scores weren't quite as low as the players wanted, getting this much tournament experience in a single day is a great way to build up stamina for the postseason. Next up, the Olympians will head into sectionals this Friday, where they hope to clean things up and put together a strong performance.
