Olympians Edge Out Pirates Behind Burton’s Medalist Performance; Packed Schedule Ahead

GREENSBURG, IN — The Columbus East boys golf team packed up for a quick half-hour road trip Friday night and returned home with a hard-fought victory, narrowly defeating the Greensburg Pirates 180-185. The Olympians leaned on a stellar performance from Braxton Burton, who captured medalist honors by firing an impressive 39 to pace the field. Balanced Effort Secures the Win While Burton led the charge at the top of the card, Columbus East relied on steady depth to maintain their five-stroke cushion over the Pirates. Ogden Crough turned in a solid round, carding a 45 for the Olympians. The middle of the lineup stepped up to solidify the team score, as Frank Phillips and Eddie Seaborne matched each other stroke-for-stroke, each shooting a 48 to round out the top four counting scores. The team is right back on the course today, Saturday, May 30th, making the trip to compete in the highly anticipated PHS Legends of Providence Invite hosted by Providence High School. Tee time is slated for 1:00 p.m. Looking Ahead: The Final Stretch The regular season will come to a quick and competitive conclusion this coming week, setting up a massive stretch of championship golf. Tuesday, June 2nd (8:00 a.m.) – The Adam Schenk Invite: The Olympians wrap up regular-season play in a powerhouse field. They will go head-to-head against elite competition, including Jasper, Evansville North, Terre Haute South, Westfield, and Castle high schools. Friday, June 5th (9:15 a.m.) – IHSAA Sectionals: Postseason play officially arrives. In a twist of scheduling fate, the Olympians will head right back to familiar territory, as Greensburg High School plays host to the sectional tournament. With momentum from Friday's victory in their pockets, the Olympians are peaking at exactly the right time as the road to the state tournament begins.
