BLOOMINGTON, IN — Senior Keaton Lawson punched his ticket to the IHSAA State Finals on Thursday night, leading the Columbus East Olympians at the highly competitive IHSAA Boys Track and Field Regional meet hosted by Bloomington North High School. As a team, the Olympians collected 10 points to finish tied for 16th place out of 52 competing schools. Lawson Secures State Berth in High Jump The defining highlight of the night for Columbus East came in the field events. Senior Keaton Lawson delivered a stellar performance in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 4 inches to secure a third-place finish. By placing in the top three of the individual regional finals, Lawson officially earned automatic advancement to the upcoming IHSAA State Finals. The Olympians also saw a strong showing from Ryder Meek, who earned an eighth-place finish in the high jump by clearing 6-2. In the long jump, Luke Warren placed 13th overall with a top leap of 18-10. Dickson and Study Lead the Track Finalists On the track, distance runner Norman Dickson put together a grueling double-podium performance. Dickson captured eighth-place finishes in both of his distance events, crossing the line in 4:33.24 in the 1,600-meter run and following it up with a time of 9:58.40 in the 3,200-meter run. In the sprints, Deonte Study advanced out of the preliminary rounds of the 200-meter dash with a swift time of 22.99 (7th in Prelims). Study returned to the track for the finals, securing an eighth-place finish for the Olympians with a time of 23.35. Additional Regional Competitors Several other Olympians put together strong efforts against the region's elite field: Hurdles & Sprints Luke Warren: Placed 11th in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries (16.43) and finished 12th in the 300-meter hurdles finals (42.46). Henry Eickmeyer: Finished 14th in the 110-meter hurdles preliminaries (16.86) and took 13th in the 300-meter hurdles finals (42.54). Blake Moss: Competed in the 100-meter dash, placing 11th in the preliminary rounds with a time of 11.40. Relay Events 4x800-Meter Relay Team: Crossed the line in 8:53.05 to earn a 10th-place regional finish. 4x400-Meter Relay Team: Finished 14th overall with a time of 3:43.60. The IHSAA Track and Field State meet is Friday, June 5th (Prelims) & Saturday, June 6th @ North Central High School Track & Field Complex, 1801 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis. Good luck Keaton!
