The Columbus East Olympians ran into a strong challenge Thursday night as they traveled to face Class 3A No. 10 Roncalli, with the Royals claiming a 10-0 victory in five innings. Despite the final score, the Olympians continued to compete throughout the night against one of the state’s top programs. Columbus East showed flashes defensively and had several players battle through difficult at-bats against a sharp Roncalli pitching staff. Ryker Stott and Bige Asher accounted for the two Columbus East hits on the evening, with both players delivering singles for the Olympians. Stott also added a stolen base as East tried to create opportunities offensively. On the mound, Kaden Arnholt worked four innings against a dangerous Roncalli lineup, striking out three batters while competing through traffic on the bases much of the night. JD Rotert came on in relief during the fifth inning. Defensively, the Olympians were able to settle in during stretches of the game. Rotert made multiple plays in center field, while Logun Rager and Biage Asher combined for key outs on the infield. Columbus East nearly sparked something in the fifth inning when Asher lined a single into left field and courtesy runner Zander Weatherford advanced into scoring position after a stolen base. However, Roncalli was able to escape the inning and close out the game. Facing one of the top-ranked teams in Class 3A on the road provided another valuable test for the Olympians as they continue preparing for the postseason stretch of the season. The O's close out the regular season with game on Monday and Tuesday: Monday, May 25th at home against New Albany HS, first pitch, 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, May 25th at home vs. Indianapolis Lutheran, first pitch at 6 p.m. IHSAA Sectional #14 is Near! The Olympians will begin 2026 Sectional play on Friday, May 29th at 6 p.m. vs. the East Central Trojans. The Sectional is being hosted by Columbus North High School. Good luck Olympians!
