Columbus East High School

The Columbus East High School girls tennis team traveled to New Albany High School on Friday evening to compete in the consolation round of the Hoosier Hills Conference tournament. The match determined fifth place in the conference standings. New Albany secured a 3-2 team victory over Columbus East, capturing 5th place in the HHC tournament. The closely contested dual match was decided by victories across three individual flights for the Bulldogs, while Columbus East claimed the remaining two positions. In singles play, Columbus East earned two victories. At No. 2 singles, Olivia De Barro defeated Stella Lozier in straight sets, finishing 6-2, 6-0. The Olympians found further success at No. 3 singles, where Bruna Carriera topped Ena Sikes with a score of 6-2, 6-4. New Albany claimed the remaining singles point at the No. 1 position, where Kate Sullivan defeated Columbus East’s Lauren Degner 6-3, 6-3. The Bulldogs swept both doubles flights to secure the overall team win. At No. 1 doubles, Ava Tartt and Audrey Bush of Columbus East fell to Callie Loesch and Macy Ryan 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2 doubles, New Albany's Hallie Hamilton and Nora Meadors defeated the Columbus East pair of Stefani Christopher and Zoe White 6-2, 6-3. The Olympians now set their sights on the IHSAA Tournament Pairing Show on Sunday, May 17th starting at 7 p.m. The Olympians will find out who they'll play in the IHSAA Sectional Round which begins this coming week (Week of May 18th). This years IHSAA #20 Sectional is hosted by Columbus North High School featuring the following teams. Columbus East, Columbus North, Edinburgh, Greensburg, and Hauser. Good luck Olympians!
