BLOOMINGTON, IN — In a game that tested their resolve at every turn, the Olympians traveled to Bloomington on Wednesday and returned with a hard-earned 6-5 victory over the Bloomington South Panthers. The mid-week clash was a back-and-forth affair that saw East overcome an early deficit and a late-inning surge to secure the win. The Olympians' offense was paced by a relentless middle of the order. After falling behind 2-0 early, East began their comeback in the third inning when Thaise Jessup laced an RBI single to center, scoring McKenzie Hampton to cut the lead in half. Following a Bloomington South run in the fourth, the Olympians exploded for a three-run fifth inning to take control. The big blow came off the bat of Natasha Armstrong, who cleared the bases with a clutch three-run triple to right field, scoring Jessup, Baleigh Fish, and Taylor Wessel. Armstrong finished the day 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs. The Olympians added what proved to be a vital insurance run in the sixth inning when Ladaishia Logan drove home Ariel Darnell with an RBI single, pushing the East lead to 6-3. While the bats provided the spark, Jacque Boroughs provided the stability on the rubber. Boroughs turned in a complete-game performance, throwing 7.0 innings and allowing only three earned runs on eight hits. Despite facing pressure in the final frame, Boroughs remained efficient, throwing 59 of her 80 pitches for strikes and recording four strikeouts without yielding a single walk. The bottom of the seventh was not without drama. Bloomington South managed to push two runs across, including a run-scoring triple, to trim the lead to 6-5. However, with the tying run in scoring position, Boroughs induced a flyout to center fielder Lola Watkins to end the threat and seal the "gutty" win. The Olympians will look to carry this momentum back home as they host the Madison Cubs(5/14) tonight at Olympian Field. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m..
