BEDFORD — The Columbus East girls track and field team traveled to Bedford North-Lawrence High School on Tuesday evening to compete in the 2026 Hoosier Hills Conference (HHC) Championship. The Olympians finished the night in fifth place overall, totaling 64.5 points across a variety of track and field events. The Olympians' highest individual finish came in the shot put, where Sophia Gallion won the conference title with a mark of 32' 10.75". Isabella Leonard followed in fifth place with a throw of 28' 7". The duo also scored points in the discus, with Leonard finishing fourth (98' 0") and Gallion taking sixth (81' 4"). In the jumping events, Sophie Glick cleared 5' 0" to finish in a tie for second place in the high jump. Indee Pellegrino also contributed to the team score, finishing in a tie for eighth. In the long jump, Kiersten Collins placed fourth with a best leap of 15' 4.5". On the track, Kai Scott led the scoring in the hurdles, placing third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.35) and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles (52.00). In the sprint events, Sophie Glick finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.37, while Claire Behnke placed eighth in the 100-meter dash finals. The Olympians also saw consistent scoring from their relay teams. The 4x100-meter relay team of Kiersten Collins, Claire Behnke, Kyleigh Dover, and Kai Scott finished third. The 4x400-meter relay (Meg Going, Behnke, Glick, Pellegrino) took fourth, and the 4x800-meter relay (Abigail Collins, Daphne May, Elizabeth Sztaba, Kalia Scott) placed fifth. While Floyd Central took the overall team title, Columbus East maintained a steady presence throughout the meet, particularly in the field and hurdle events.
