Fish Fires Shutout as Olympians Blank Bulldogs 9-0 NEW ALBANY HS - The Columbus East Olympians made the hour-long trip south Tuesday evening and returned home with a convincing Hoosier Hills Conference victory, shutting out the New Albany Bulldogs 9-0 on a beautiful spring night. Columbus East collected 11 hits in the win and received a dominant performance in the circle from Baleigh Fish, who kept the Bulldogs off the scoreboard all evening. Fish struck out 10 batters while scattering just five hits and allowing only two walks across seven complete innings. The Olympians wasted little time getting on the board in the opening inning. Lola Watkins started the game with a single and later scored on a Fish RBI double to left field, giving East an early 1-0 advantage. East added another run in the third inning when Thaise Jessup ripped a triple to right field, bringing home Watkins to extend the lead to 2-0. The Olympians created separation in the fifth inning with a three-run frame. McKenzie Hampton opened the inning with a single, while Watkins reached on an error that helped put runners in scoring position. After Fish drew a walk, Taylor Wessel delivered a clutch two-run single to left field, scoring both Watkins and courtesy runner Shelby Williams. Earlier in the inning, Jacque Boroughs tripled and later scored on an RBI single by Ariel Darnell. Columbus East broke the game wide open in the sixth inning with four more runs. Boroughs sparked the rally again with a triple to right field before Darnell drove her in with an RBI single. Hampton later singled to keep the inning alive, setting the stage for Watkins, who crushed a three-run home run to center field to push the lead to 8-0. Fish followed later in the inning with a solo home run to left field to cap the scoring. Defensively, the Olympians played a clean game behind Fish. Jessup threw out a runner attempting to steal in the second inning, while Boroughs handled several key plays at shortstop to help preserve the shutout.
