COLUMBUS EAST HS — The Columbus East girls tennis team hosted the Batesville Bulldogs Thursday night at the Olympian tennis complex. Despite strong performances at the top of the lineup, the Olympians suffered a 3-2 defeat. Columbus East found success in the primary singles flights. At No. 1 singles, Lauren Degner defeated Grace Gutzwiller in straight sets, 7-6 (0), 6-0. Olivia De Barro added a second point for the Olympians at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory. Batesville claimed the remaining three points to secure the overall win. At No. 3 singles, Bruna Carriera fell 6-2, 7-5. In doubles action, the No. 1 pairing of Ava Tartt and Audrey Bush lost 6-4, 6-3, while Stefani Christopher and Zoe White fell 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. The Olympians will now enter Hoosier Hill Conference tournament play when they host a first round match against the Jeffersonville Red Devils on Monday, May 11th. First serve: 5:30 p.m.
