OLYMPIAN FIELD — On a cool, brisk Friday evening, the Columbus East Olympians offense proved to be scorching hot as they hosted Hoosier Hills Conference opponent Bedford North Lawrence. The Olympians showcased absolute dominance at Olympian Field, putting together a complete team performance to secure a commanding 17-1 victory in just five innings. The Olympians' offensive onslaught began immediately. While the Stars managed a single run in the top of the first, East responded with a relentless scoring barrage, plating six runs in the first inning, six more in the second, and five in the third to effectively end the contest early. Leading the charge was sophomore Thaise Jessup, who put on a clinic at the plate. Jessup went a perfect 2-for-2, highlighted by a towering grand slam over the center field fence and a double. She finished the night with five RBIs and three runs scored, accounting for a massive chunk of the team's production. The depth of the Olympians' lineup was on full display throughout the evening: > Jacque Boroughs contributed heavily to the box score, driving in three runs on one hit. > Natasha Armstrong had a standout night, going 1-for-1 with a double, two walks, and three runs scored. > Lola Watkins reached base consistently, recording two hits and two walks while driving in a run. > Ariel Darnell and Jade Hampton both showcased great plate discipline and speed, each scoring three times while contributing an RBI apiece. > Baleigh Fish added a hit and an RBI to the total > Emma Armstrong also chipped in, scoring once and drawing a walk. While the bats provided the fireworks, sophomore Jacque Boroughs was masterful in the circle. Boroughs delivered a gem of a pitching performance, throwing a complete-game two-hitter. She was in total control from start to finish, racking up seven strikeouts and allowing only one walk. Remarkably, she did not allow a single earned run all night, keeping the Stars' hitters off-balance with every pitch. This all-around "O's" victory was a nice win to build momentum for another busy week of softball as the O's have three games scheduled for the week. The first two games will be on the road, with the O's traveling to New Albany HS for a conference game on Tuesday, May 5th at 6 p.m., followed by a trip to Seymour, IN to face Trinity Lutheran HS on Thursday, May 7th at 5:30 p.m. The Olympians will then finish the week at home when they host the Living Waters Marlins on Saturday, May 9th in a single-game contest starting at 11 a.m. The Olympians are now into the final quarter of the season as they look to build some mojo going into to state tournament play.
