COLUMBUS NORTH HS - In a high-energy cross-town clash on Friday evening, the Columbus East boys volleyball team traveled to Memorial Gymnasium to take on the Columbus North Bull Dogs. While the Olympians displayed remarkable resilience and pushed the match into a fourth frame, they ultimately fell to their rivals by a score of 3-1. The Bull Dogs claimed the opening two sets 25-19 and 25-18, putting East in an early hole. However, the third set provided a stunning display of the Olympians' fighting spirit. Trailing significantly at 18-9 and later 19-12, Columbus East found a spark behind the service line. Josiah Shelton orchestrated a massive eight-point run to flip the momentum and give the Olympians a 21-19 lead. Kam Robertson then took over serving duties to seal the 25-21 victory and extend the match. East carried that momentum into the fourth set, jumping out to a commanding 12-5 lead and maintaining a 20-16 advantage late in the game. Despite the strong start and a late push to tie the score at 22-22, the Olympians were unable to force a fifth set, dropping the final frame 25-22. Top Performers for the Olympians The East roster saw significant contributions across the board during the four-set battle: David Sylva: Directed the offense with 24 assists while contributing defensively with 11 digs and 3 blocks. Jonathan Sylva: Led the attack at the net with 11 kills and added 2 aces. Kash Coers: Recorded 9 digs and served up 2 aces. Kam Robertson: Anchored the back row with 9 digs and tallied 1 ace. Patrick Strickland: Provided 5 kills and 2 blocks at the net. Jax Branaman: Contributed 3 kills to the Olympian offensive effort. Matthew Muir & Eli Shafer: Each recorded a block to help the defensive front. They are set to host the Silver Creek Dragons in what promises to be a special evening at The Orange Pit. In addition to the match, the program will be celebrating Senior Night to honor the dedication and contributions of its graduating class. The first serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
