COLUMBUS EAST HS — The Columbus East girls tennis team successfully defended their home court Thursday night, grinding out a 3-2 victory over the visiting Greenwood Woodmen at the Columbus East Tennis Complex. The win keeps the momentum rolling for the Olympians as they continue their mid-season surge. The victory was powered by a clean sweep of the singles positions. At No. 1 singles, Lauren Degner led the charge with a disciplined 6-4, 6-3 win over Annika Shaffer. Olivia DeBarro followed with a dominant performance at No. 2 singles, nearly shutting out her opponent in a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Anna Baugh. The most dramatic match of the evening occurred at No. 3 singles, where Bruna Carriera showed incredible resilience. After winning a tight first set 7-5 and dropping the second 2-6, Carriera took control in the decider to win 6-2, clinching the crucial third point for East. In doubles play, the No. 1 duo of Ava Tartt and Audrey Bush fell 6-1, 6-1, while the No. 2 pairing of Stefani Christopher and Zoe White lost a 6-2, 6-1 decision. Despite the setbacks in doubles, the Olympians' strength at the top of the lineup was enough to secure the team win. Columbus East will look to carry their 3 match winning streak on the road as they return to Hoosier Hills Conference play. The Olympians are scheduled to face off against the Bedford North-Lawrence Stars on Monday, May 4th. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m.
