While much of the spring sports slate was washed away by Monday evening’s inclement weather, the Columbus East boys volleyball team found a dry court and a tough test on the road at Greenwood HS. Inside the gym, the Olympians squared off with the Woodmen and showed flashes of strong play, but ultimately came up short in straight sets, 11-25, 19-25, 19-25. Columbus East struggled to find rhythm early, dropping the opening set before settling in during the final two frames. The Olympians competed much more evenly in the second and third sets, extending rallies and tightening up defensively, but couldn’t overcome Greenwood’s consistency. Jonathan Sylva led the attack with five kills, while Patrick Strickland, Matthew Muir, Jacob Thomas, and Kamron Robertson each added one. David Sylva orchestrated the offense with nine assists, helping East generate opportunities at the net. From the service line, Trevor Ernst provided a spark with three aces, while Jonathan Sylva added another. Defensively, Kash Coers anchored the back row with nine digs, followed by Ernst with five and David Sylva with five of his own. At the net, Muir and Strickland made their presence felt with four blocks each. Columbus East returns to the Orange Pit on Wednesday, April 29th, when they host the New Albany Bulldogs in Hoosier Hills Conference action. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
