FRANKLIN HS — The Columbus East Varsity Olympians displayed significant offensive firepower early in Thursday night’s contest against Franklin Community, led by a pair of home runs and disciplined plate appearances. While the Grizzly Cubs eventually secured a 10-5 victory, the Olympians’ lineup showed they can put up runs in bunches. Early Inning Fireworks The Olympians wasted no time setting the tone in the first inning. JD Rotert got things moving with an RBI single, followed immediately by a powerful three-run home run to left field from Kaden Arnholt. The early 4-0 lead showcased the team's ability to capitalize on scoring opportunities right out of the gate. Paxton Thompson added to the highlight reel in the third inning, crushing a solo home run to left field to keep the momentum on the Columbus East side. Olympian Standouts Despite the final score, several Columbus East players turned in strong individual performances: > Kaden Arnholt (#25): Anchored the middle of the order, going 1-for-2 with a home run, three RBIs, and showing great patience with two walks. > JD Rotert (#1): Had a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. > Zander Weatherford (#2): Remained consistent at the plate, collecting two hits in four at-bats. > Landyn Jewell (#10): Displayed a keen eye by drawing two walks during the contest. > Tanner Jewell (#30): Provided excellent relief on the mound, throwing two scoreless innings and allowing only one hit to keep the game within reach late. Team Resilience The Olympians demonstrated a "never-quit" attitude, drawing a total of six walks as a team and continuing to put runners on base throughout the evening. Defensively, the team also successfully turned a double play to stifle a Franklin threat. While a tough fourth inning allowed the Grizzly Cubs to take the lead, the Olympians' early-game execution and relief pitching remain bright spots as they move forward in their schedule. Next Up The Olympians return home to the friendly confines of their home field to welcome Beech Grove Hornets tonight, Friday, April 24th. First pitch: 6 p.m.
