COLUMBUS EAST HS — The Columbus East track and field teams hosted a formidable opponent Tuesday night, facing off against Bloomington North. While the Cougars took the team scores—winning 84-48 on the girls' side and 101-31 on the boys' side—the Olympians delivered several standout performances and secured hard-fought victories in both individual and relay events. Girls Relays and Field Events Shine The Olympian girls showed great depth and competitive spirit, particularly in the relay events. In one of the most exciting races of the night, the Columbus East 4x100m relay team (53.41) edged out Bloomington North by just one-hundredth of a second to take first place. The girls capped off the track events with another victory in the 4x400m relay, finishing in 4:26.43. Individually, Kai Scott led the way on the track with a victory in the 300m hurdles (51.20) and a strong second-place finish in the 100m hurdles. Ainsley Shaw followed closely in the 300m hurdles to secure a 1-2 finish for the Olympians in that event. In the field, East was dominant in the throws and jumps. Isabella Leonard took the top spot in the discus with a throw of 103' 0", while teammate Sophia Gallion followed in second. In the high jump, Sophie Glick cleared 4' 10" to claim first place, with Indee Pellegrino taking second at 4' 8". Boys Battle Top-Ranked Competition The Olympian boys faced a steep challenge against the state's top-ranked Bloomington North squad. Despite the final score, East athletes proved they could compete with the state’s elite, particularly in the jumping events. Keaton Lawson continued his impressive season by winning the high jump with a leap of 6' 2", leading an Olympian sweep of the top three spots alongside Ryder Meek (6' 0") and Ethan Glick (5' 4"). In the long jump, Kairon Young soared to a first-place finish with a distance of 19' 10", while Miles Broaddus and Luke Warren tied for second to round out a strong showing for the East jumpers. On the track, Henry Eickmeyer secured a victory in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.04 and added a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles. In the throws, Evan Simo posted a strong mark of 43' 9.5" to take second place in the shot put against a powerful North throwing core. Building Momentum While the team results went in favor of the visitors, the Olympians used the meet as a measuring stick against premier competition. With several event winners and high-place finishes, Columbus East demonstrated growth as they move further into the heart of the outdoor season.
