GREENWOOD HS - The Columbus East Varsity Olympians took a tough trip to Greenwood on Friday evening, battling through nine intense innings before ultimately falling 5-4 on a final-play walk-off. Despite a disciplined performance at the plate and a marathon outing on the mound, the Olympians couldn't quite seal the deal in extra innings. Asher Leads Disciplined Offensive Effort - The Olympians’ offense was characterized by exceptional patience, drawing 8 total walks throughout the contest. Bige Asher (#40) was the standout performer of the day, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances. Asher finished 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI, and a team-high three walks. He was also a menace on the basepaths, accounting for two of the team’s 5 stolen bases. Other key offensive contributions included: > Ryker Stott (#9), who drove in one run and drew a walk. > Logan Jewell (#10), who finished the day 1-for-4 with a walk. > Peyton Asher (#16), who made his single at-bat count by lining a hit in the sixth inning. > Zander Weatherford (#2), who utilized his speed as a courtesy runner to steal two bases and score a critical run. > J.D. Rotert (#1) and Reid Koester (#12), who each crossed the plate once to keep the Olympians in the hunt. Arnholt’s Marathon Performance - On the mound, Kaden Arnholt (#25) delivered a gutsy, high-workload performance to keep Columbus East in a position to win. Arnholt threw 8.0 innings, surrendering eight hits and four runs—only two of which were earned—while striking out 8 Woodmen batters. He showed immense stamina, throwing a total of 121 pitches (77 for strikes) and facing 36 batters. Parker Thompson (#8) entered in the ninth inning but was credited with the loss after yielding the final run. Defensively, the Olympians were able to turn one double play during the contest to escape trouble. Looking Ahead - While the scoreboard didn't favor the Olympians this time, their ability to manufacture runs through discipline and speed was on full display. Columbus East will look to bounce back as they travel to face Silver Creek this coming Tuesday, April 21st. First pitch: 6 p.m.
