COLUMBUS EAST HS — The Columbus East Olympians track and field teams hosted a high-stakes Hoosier Hills Conference dual meet on Thursday night, welcoming the Jennings County Panthers to the Bob Gaddis Stadium at John Stafford Field. Under the lights of their home track, the East Boys delivered a commanding 85-47 victory, while a resilient Girls squad fell to the Panthers 45-87. Boys: Speed and Power Propel Olympians to Victory The Columbus East boys dominated both the track and the field, led by a spectacular performance from senior Deonte Study. Study proved to be the fastest man on the track, sweeping the sprints with a 11.38 in the 100m dash and a 23.18 in the 200m dash. The Olympians' depth in the hurdles was on full display as Henry Eickmeyer and Luke Warren traded 1st and 2nd place finishes. Eickmeyer took the top spot in the 300m hurdles (43.34), while Warren claimed the 110m hurdles title (16.74). In the distance events, sophomore Norman Dickson showcased his endurance by winning the 1600m run with a time of 4:47.18. Dickson also contributed a third-place finish in the 3200m, an event where teammate Lorren Westerfeld took second (10:47.47). Field events were a total sweep for the Orange and Brown. Ryder Meek and Keaton Lawson both cleared 6’ 0” in the high jump to share the top spot, while Kairon Young leapt 19’ 6” to win the long jump. The "Throw Olympians" also feasted at home, with Cayden Smith winning the Shot Put (36’ 9”) and Evan Simo taking the Discus title with a heave of 128’ 2”. Girls: Glick and Leonard Shine in Tough Battle Despite the overall team score, the Columbus East girls saw several standout individual performances against the Jennings County roster. Senior Sophie Glick was a bright spot on the track, sprinting to a first-place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 1:03.15. Glick also added to the team's tally in the field, taking second in the high jump (4’ 8”). The Olympians’ 4x100m relay team also tasted victory, crossing the line first with a time of 52.94 to electrify the home crowd. In the throwing rings, sophomore Isabella Leonard continued her strong season by winning the Discus event with a mark of 87’ 11”. Leonard also secured a second-place finish in the Shot Put (28’ 8”), followed closely by freshman Jocelyn Vogel in third. Other notable performances included Claire Behnke, who took second in both the 100m (13.32) and 200m (28.25) dashes, and Elizabeth Sztaba, who battled to a second-place finish in the 3200m run (13:58.41).
