The Columbus East Varsity Olympians took care of business Wednesday night at the Olympian softball complex, securing a 10-0 victory over the Ben Davis Giants. It was a balanced team effort for the O's, who capitalized on their opportunities to end the game in five innings. Efficient Work in the Circle: The Olympians saw a steady performance from Baleigh Fish, who handled the Giants' lineup with efficiency. Over 5.0 innings, Fish threw 53 strikes across 75 total pitches to complete a four-hit shutout. She retired 8 batters via strikeout and did not allow a single walk during her time in the circle. A Relentless Offensive Attack: At the plate, the Columbus East offense was firing on all cylinders, racking up 11 hits. The team displayed impressive discipline, recording only one strikeout throughout the entire contest. The attack was a mixture of small ball and power, consisting of 7 singles and 4 extra-base hits. Natasha Armstrong provided the biggest swing of the night with a home run, finishing with 3 RBIs. Thaise Jessup was equally productive, going 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBIs. The top of the order set the tone as Lola Watkins reached base in all four plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with two walks, scoring twice, and stealing two bases. Other key contributions included: > MacKenzie Hampton: Went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. > Baleigh Fish: Aided the offensive effort with two doubles and an RBI. > Taylor Wessel: Logged a hit, one RBI, one run, and a stolen base. > Emma Armstrong: Crossed the plate twice as a key part of the scoring drives. > Jacque Boroughs: Scored a run after drawing a walk and being hit by a pitch. > Hailey Spurgeon: Contributed an RBI. > Ladaishia Logan: Added to the final tally with one run scored. This victory was a solid demonstration of the Olympians' ability to put solid hitting behind a great pitching effort. The Olympians continue their 5 games in one week with a trip to Greenfield-Central HS on Thursday, April 16th with a start time of 6 p.m. and then back at the friendly confines when they host Mt. Vernon(Fortville)Marauders for a double-header matchup on Saturday, April 18th - first pitch 10 a.m.
