Olympians Outpace Jets in County Matchup

The Columbus East Varsity Olympians defended their home turf Monday evening, securing an 8-4 victory over county rival Hauser at the Olympian Softball Complex. Under near-perfect weather conditions, the Olympians' offense ignited for 13 hits, including several massive extra-base knocks that kept the Jets at bay. Offensive Fireworks The Olympian bats were firing on all cylinders from the start. The power surge was led by Lola Watkins and Thaise Jessup, who both cleared the fences with home runs. Watkins finished the day with two hits, including a double and a home run, totaling 6 total bases. Jessup was equally impressive, recording two hits (including her HR) and driving in two runs. Other notable extra-base contributions included: Ariel Darnell: Had a monster day at the plate with two hits, including a double and a triple, accounting for 5 total bases. Baleigh Fish: Aided her own cause with a double. Jacque Boroughs: Stretched a hit into a double, finishing with 2 runs scored. The Olympians also showed discipline and teamwork to manufacture runs. Natasha Armstrong and MacKenzie Hampton each contributed a hit and an RBI, while Taylor Wessel successfully executed a sacrifice fly to bring a runner home. Performance on the Mound Baleigh Fish earned the start and delivered a dominant performance through 6.0 innings. She silenced the Hauser bats for much of the night, racking up 8 strikeouts while allowing only one earned run.
