The Columbus East girls tennis team faced a tough afternoon at the Olympian Tennis Complex on Monday, falling 5-0 to cross-town rival Columbus North. Playing in very windy conditions with temperatures reaching an unseasonably 80 degrees, the Olympians were swept in straight sets across all five varsity matches. In the singles lineup, Lauren Degner fell at the No. 1 spot with a 1-6, 1-6 score, while Olivia De Barro battled at No. 2 singles before dropping her match 1-6, 2-6. At No. 3 singles, Bruna Carreira was unable to get on the board, losing 0-6, 0-6. The doubles side saw similar challenges against the Bull Dogs' experience. The No. 1 doubles pairing of Zoe White and Ava Tartt finished their match with a 1-6, 0-6 loss. In the No. 2 doubles position, Lilli Smith and Stefani Christopher were also blanked, falling 0-6, 0-6. Despite the windy environment and the final scoreline, the match provided the inexperienced Olympian roster with significant court time against a solid opponent as they look toward the rest of their spring schedule. The O's are back on their home court tonight, April 14th, when they face the Shelbyville Golden Bears. First serve: 5:30 p.m.
