OLYMPIANS SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER AT GREENSBURG

Greensburg H.S. - The Columbus East Olympian softball team traveled to Greensburg for a Saturday doubleheader, ultimately coming away with a hard-fought split. After a defensive battle in Game One that pushed into extra innings, the Olympians found their offensive stride in a major way to dominate the second contest. Game One: Extra-Inning Heartbreaker (2-3) In the opening game, the Olympians and Pirates were locked in a stalemate that required eight innings to resolve. Columbus East jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Greensburg chipped away, scoring one in the fourth and eventually walking it off with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Offensive Standouts Lola Watkins (#2): Finished 2-for-4 with a triple, a run scored, and a stolen base. Natasha Armstrong (#25): Perfect 2-for-2 day at the plate with a double, 2 RBIs, a sacrifice bunt, and a stolen base. Baleigh Fish (#5): Went 1-for-4 and scored a run. Thaise Jessup (#3): Logged one hit and a stolen base. Taylor Wessel (#8): Contributed one hit to the Olympians' 7-hit total. Pitching Performance The Olympian staff combined for 6 strikeouts over 7.1 innings of work. Jacque Boroughs (#1) started the contest, throwing 3.0 innings with 1 strikeout. Jayley Smiley (#27) provided strong relief, pitching 4.1 innings, allowing only 2 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 5 batters. _________ Game Two: Offensive Explosion Leads to Five- Inning Rout Determined to bounce back, the Olympians turned Game Two into a showcase of offensive power, cruising to a 15-1 victory in just five innings. The team set the tone early with a massive 10-run first inning and finished the game with 15 hits. Game Two Olympian Highlights: Jacque Boroughs: 4-for-5, 2B, 4 RBIs, SB Thaise Jessup: 3-for-3, 2B, 4 Runs, 2 SB Lola Watkins: 2-for-3, 2B, 2 RBIs, SB Natasha Armstrong: 1-for-2, 2B, 3 RBIs Hailey Spurgeon: 2 RBIs, BB, SF Baleigh Fish: 2-for-2, 2 BB, 1 RBI Pitching: Baleigh Fish (4.1 IP, 3 Hits, 1 Run, 5 SO) Additional hits and contributions in the Game Two rout were provided by Emma Armstrong, Ariel Darnell, Jaydalynn Hampton, and MaccKenzie Hampton. The Olympians hosts the Hauser Jets Monday night(4/13) at Olympian Field. First pitch: 5:30 p.m.
